USC News: Trojans Continue to Hold Draft Records

The conclusion of the 2020 NFL draft left USC as one of four schools to have at least one player drafted every year in the Common Era (started in 1967). The other four three schools to do it being  Florida, Michigan, and Michigan State.

This year the Trojans had only two players taken in the draft which is their lowest since 2002.

Offensive tackle Austin Jackson was taken in the first round, 18th overall by the Miami Dolphins. The other USC player to be taken was wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. who was taken in the second round, 34th overall by the Indianapolis Colts. Both figure to bey key contributors to their respective teams’ future success.

USC also escaped the draft holding onto another record. Before the start of the draft, the Trojans held the all-time draft record 509 selections and ended with 511 all-time picks.

However, the Trojans did lose the all-time first-rounders record to Ohio State after they had three selections in the first round to raise their total to 84 all-time first-rounders.

Although these records have no great significance, they do show that USC has been one of the top schools in the nation at producing NFL capable players. Question is, can they continue these records next year?
