Rams News: Defensive Tackle Aaron Donald Supports Quarterback John Wolford

By now the news of Jared Goff’s recent injury has reached Rams fans everywhere. The franchise quarterback underwent surgery on his thumb earlier this week and will be unavailable for the Rams’ matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. While Goff’s absence may be seen as a blessing in disguise to many, his replacement hasn’t garnered much support.

Former Wake Forest quarterback, John Wolford, has been Goff’s backup this season and will be in line for the crucial start this week. However, fans have voiced that the Rams should instead give Bryce Perkins the start as he could potentially alter the offense with his dual-threat potential. The Rams could also turn to recently re-signed quarterback Blake Bortles who spent last season as Goff’s backup.

Despite all of that, Wolford expressed that he was confident in his abilities ahead of his first-ever career start.

“I know I can spin it, I know I can make the throws, and then mentally, it’s about making the right decisions to give us the best chance to win. I’m confident going into this week.”

While fans are uncertain about Wolford, defensive star Aaron Donald seems to stand by the decision to give the former the start after speaking highly of his work ethic in a recent press conference.

“He’s getting his opportunity to step up and play a huge role to help us win this game, and I’m confident. The abilities that he has that I’ve seen through camp, through practice, the way he prepares, the way he gets himself ready, there’s no doubt in my mind that this guy’s going to go out there and play at a high level and do what he needs to do to help this team win.”

Los Angeles’ playoff hopes hang in the balance this week with Wolford at the helm. While they can sneak into the postseason with a Chicago loss, the Rams rather take matters into their own hands. Hopefully, Wolford can lead a team that will be without a handful of key offensive players.
