Rams News: Kai Forbath to Hit Injured Reserve, LA Brings Back Familiar Face

When the Rams signed journeyman kicker Kai Forbath, they were hoping that he could help fortify the position with Sloman no longer apart of the team. However, in two games so far this season, he’s missed a field goal as well as an extra point against Seattle that thankfully didn’t come back to haunt the Rams. The revolving door at the kicker position will continue as Forbath suffered an ankle injury in the second half and will be placed on injured reserve.

The Rams have recently brought back a familiar face to their practice squad in Austin MacGinnis. Many might recognize the name as MacGinnis was with the Rams during camp and was in a three-man battle for the kicking position. Of course, the Rams went with Sloman and boy was that a mistake. Upon the injury to Forbath, MacGinnis will have an opportunity to seize the position.

He won’t be alone as the Rams are also said to be bringing in Matt Gay. Gay has one year of NFL experience with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who the Rams are set to play next. In 2019 he nailed 27 field goals in 35 attempts (77.1%) as well as 43 out of 48 extra points (89.6%).

While those stats don’t necessarily jump out, the hope is that the competition between the two will give the team a better idea of who could give them the best production moving forward. With a tough second-half schedule underway, every point will be needed for the playoff-hopeful Rams.
