Rams News: LA to Receive $5.5 million in Cap Space on Tuesday After Todd Gurley Release

Todd Gurley’s days with the Rams have been over for quite some time, yet officially, he is still a part of the team.

When the team released Gurley back in March, he wasted no time in announcing he was going home to play for the Atlanta Falcons. But that signing cannot be made official until after June 1st, which was the date the cut was back scheduled for to lessen the cap hit. Come Tuesday, the Rams will finally receive the cap space that they intended to receive with Todd Gurley’s release, and it’s a pretty significant number.

The team is currently sitting at $569,000 in cap space, but come Tuesday the number will grow to over $6 million. The team’s rookie class remains largely unsigned, and this will be the first order of business with the incoming cash flow. It is also possible that the team signs some more veteran help after a major roster overhaul from last season. There are still plenty of impact free agents available should the team feel they need upgrades, but what’s important is that they now have a choice.

Some fans were disappointed when the team released Gurley, but the financial impact was clear. With multiple young players that will soon need extensions, it was simply finding the odd man out. Gurley’s injury history made the decision simple for the team, and we’re about to find out what they do with the money they saved.
