Rams News: Team Surprises Watts Rams w/ Hoodies & Donates Microsoft Surfaces To Student-Athletes

Recently the Los Angeles Rams provided their Watts Rams players and coaches with hoodies that were inspired by the teams’ new look and uniforms. The hoodies were gifted in boxes that were hand-delivered by LAPD officers, who served as the Watts Rams coaches, to each player.

As an added bonus, inside each box was a letter from Rams All-Pro defensive lineman Aaron Donald. That’s crazy! Along with the hoodies, each player will receive new uniforms that go along with the LA Ram’s recent rebranding.

Molly Higgins who is the vice president of community affairs and engagement for the LA Rams expressed the importance of creating memorable moments.

When we announced the adoption of the ‘Watts Rams’ last season, we made a commitment to wrap our organizational arms around the program and provide our kids with unique experiences, As an organization, we try to do that at every turn, and we were excited to incorporate a special surprise for each of them during such an important time for our franchise.”

Secondly, since all schools in the Los Angeles area have been closed due to the pandemic, the Rams felt that education is still very important and must continue.

Almost every student is having a difficult time with distant learning and for some, with the lack of technological resources it’s almost impossible. Many students don’t have access to computers and others may be without internet access. Zoom is a highly used connecting tool that teachers now incorporate in their classwork.

To help some Watts Rams student-athletes in need, the LA Rams also donated Microsoft Surface tablets.

James Holliman, an LAPD officer, and Watts Rams football coach stated “As a coach and mentor, it’s important for us to make sure our youth have all the tools they need to succeed. During this pandemic, unfortunately a lot of our youth didn’t have the tools they needed to complete virtual learning. Through our partnership with the LA Rams we received 25 Microsoft Tablets which we then passed out to the youth that needed assistance. Our organization is thankful to have the support of the LA Rams, especially in the times we’re in today.”

The Watts Rams is a youth football program coached by LAPD officers, that was adopted by the LA Rams. The Rams, who fund all football components of the program, including uniforms and equipment. They also provide engagement opportunities with current players, alumni, coaches, and scouts. The two football organizations have also been known to develop joint programs that focus on character development and community service.
