Rams Draft: What Fans Can Expect from WR Van Jefferson

Jared Goff has some new offensive weapons to play with. After taking a running back in Cam Akers with their first pick of the draft, the Rams went with Florida wide receiver Van Jefferson to round out the offensive skills positions. While almost everyone expected LA to upgrade their offensive line here in the second round, these are very solid picks for a front office that has an eye for talent.

Let’s break down what Ram’s fans can expect from their newest member.

Scouting Report

Jefferson is at his best as a slot receiver, and he will be able to back up Kupp in that role from the start. While not the fastest guy on the field, Jefferson separates himself with his technique and knows how to work around his limitations. Many analysts agree that he has one of the softest hands in the draft, and that skill should translate instantly at the next level.

Jefferson is also one of the best route runners in the draft. This helps to make up for his average athleticism as it still allows him to get some separation from defenders. He does have the versatility to play all three receiver slots, but the Rams should stick with him at the slot if they want to maximize his value.

Final Thoughts

Coach Sean McVay came away with two very solid offensive players that should fit in seamlessly into his offense. Jefferson, in particular, has the makings of a solid third or fourth receiver. He will be battling Josh Reynolds for the backup role this coming season and should get a real chance at some playing time. Snead has now given Goff a revamped offense to work with, hoping that the team can return to their high scoring ways. As long as they can upgrade their offensive and defensive lines before the end of the draft, the Rams are looking like a solid team going into next season.
