LA Roundup: UCLA’s Garrett Mitchell Reaches Deal with the Brewers, Why the Chargers Should Trade for Raheem Mostert, and More!

Welcome to another roundup, where we gather all of LA sports’ biggest stories of the day! The Lakers finally joined the NBA bubble in Orlando Thursday evening, but while we wait on further updates from the team, we focused on other LA sports.

The biggest story from today comes out of UCLA, where first-round draft pick Garrett Mitchell officially signed with the Milwaukee Brewers for $3,242,900. Mitchell was the heart and soul for a UCLA team that had title expectations before the coronavirus ended the season short. He will most likely be joining the Brewers player pool for the shortened season in order to accelerate his development. It would have been great to keep him in So Cal, but Mitchell will still shine on the next level.

The LA Chargers are hoping to have a special season this year after an active offseason in the free-agent market and the draft. And while it seems that they have the team that they will enter the season with, it’s never too late to add further upgrades. With the rumors that San Francisco running back Raheem Mostert has requested a trade, we analyzed how he could potentially fit in with LA’s squad. Austin Ekeler will see the majority of the playing time, but his backup options do not instill much confidence. Should San Francisco be persuaded to make a deal, the Chargers might consider reaching out.

We end today with a lighthearted story involving a couple of former Rams. Orlando Pace and Kevin Greene will be representing the NFL Hall of Fame along with the Rams in a celebrity version of Family Feud, facing off against some rising stars from the NFL. The episode is set to air this coming Sunday, July 12th at 8 pm EST.
