LA Roundup: Previewing the Lakers’ New Schedule, Rams Wide Receivers Rank High, A Former Dodger Named to the Hall of Fame(Sorta), and More!

The news broke yesterday that we were finally going to see basketball again, and today we look a little closer. While teams like the Blazers and Pelicans may benefit from the new format and schedule, the Lakers will face more adversity than they signed up for. After playing the second-toughest schedule so far, they now have to face purely playoff teams to lock up the one seed. At the very least, they have plenty of wiggle room as they try to find their footing for a deep playoff run.

The Captain had a few words for the Lakers as they prepare to return to action, and the message ran deep. Kareem Abdul Jabbar has always been a source of inspiration for current and former Lakers, and his thoughts on the social injustices being seen around the country helped to unify them during these trying moments. It is important for athletes to be allowed the stage to express their views as people, and the Lakers have done an excellent job in allowing them that freedom.

The LA Kings recently signed Arthur Kaliyev to a 3-year entry-level contract, another step toward their future. Kaliyev was a stud in the Ontario Hockey League and will be a key piece during these next 3 years for LA. He was a finalist for the league’s most outstanding player and showed some insane potential for an 18-year-old. The future is once again looking very bright for LA.

We received an old friend alert when news broke out that a certain Casey Blake was being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Okay, not that Hall of Fame, but the Kansas edition is still something! Casey Blake played for the Dodgers from 2008-2011, and had a very productive baseball career. His time with the Dodgers was at the end of his career, but he was a fan favorite and did LA proud. Congrats to him for being recognized for all he’s done!

We end today with a rather surprising revelation, as the retooling Rams (not rebuilding apparently) have something going for them this season. According to Bleacher Report’s NFL rankings, LA’s receivers rank as the 5th best group in the league. The combination of Kupp, Reynolds, Woods, and Jefferson is clearly seen as formidable and could help the team shock some people this season.
