Lakers News: LeBron James Talks About NBA Retirement

On Sunday, we just witnessed arguably the greatest quarterback to play in the NFL win his seventh Super Bowl. No matter how you feel about Brady, it’s hard to ignore what he’s been able to do on the field despite being 43 years old. LeBron James has shown his support for the Super Bowl champ and his ability to compete at a high level into his forties.

After the Lakers overtime win against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the longevity of Brady’s career was brought up and James was asked the question of whether he knows how far he’ll continue his career. LeBron left it up to fate to decide his retirement.

“I don’t know how long I’m going to play the game. I don’t know how much more I’ll be able to give to the game. The way I feel right now, we’ll see what happens. But I have no timetable on it. I have no year of, ‘OK, do I want to play until 30-this or 40-that?’ The game will let me know when it’s time, and we’ll figure it out then.”

His answer seems a little ironic as the 36-year old has dominated on the court this year. Through 25 games so far this season, he’s averaged 25.6 points, 8.0 assists, and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting a very solid 39.8% from beyond the arc. That kind of production has made him the leading MVP candidate so far his year.

As for Laker fans, the good news is James is still under contract through the 2022-23 season where he will be 38 years old. One thing that could keep him playing after that is the opportunity to play with his oldest son who would graduate high school by then. Whether that’s with Los Angeles or elsewhere it yet to be seen.
