The Lakers are in the process of reloading for next season in order to defend their title. It’s always nice to sign big-name free agents or to pull off trades that improve your team. However, signing a free agent and crippling a conference rival along the way is a huge win, especially when that team is the Clippers.
The Los Angeles Lakers are nearing a deal with Montrezl Harrell, the reigning Sixth Man of the Year, sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

That’s exactly the case right now as the Lakers have finalized a deal with the team’s former big man. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the deal is worth $19 million over two years with an option for the second season. Harrell was a huge part of the Clippers’ success before they fell apart during the Conference Semifinals. In 63 games last season, he averaged 18.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while making 58% of his field goals. That kind of production earned Harrell the Sixth Man of the Year Award.

The Lakers will take that kind of production on their roster. There is a chance they could lose both JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard to free agency so bringing in Harrell fills a big hole. He undoubtedly gives the Lakers another scorer off of the bench or in the starting lineup, depending on how things play out. Assuming Davis still has intentions even after holding off on a contract, the addition of Montrezl Harrell instantly makes the Lakers that much more dangerous.
