Mamba fans are happy. Happy that they get to see their beloved Kobe Bryant shine bright on the cover of NBA 2K21 as they pushed so hard for. Well, NBA 2K listened with big ears and accepted with open arms.

The company announced this morning that Kobe will be the third and final cover athlete for NBA 2K21. They will be honoring him with the “Mamba Forever” edition of the highly popular video game.

There are two art versions that NBA 2K will show off. The first one will feature artwork from his 81-point performance in 2006. The next-gen edition will show Bryant’s “wave” after his final game in which he totaled 60-points 10 years later.

NBA 2K said that the “Mamba Forever Edition” will replace the Legend edition. Kobe shined on that cover back in 2017 as well.

Kobe is one of 3 NBA stars to be featured on NBA 2K21’s cover. He’s joining Damian Lillard and Zion Williams.

Alfie Brody, who is the VP of global marketing over at NBA 2K, expressed his excitement.

“Each of our cover athletes represent different eras of the game of basketball—Damian Lillard dominates the court today, Zion Williamson is a standard-bearer for the next generation of NBA superstar and what more could be said about Kobe? Three athletes representing the current, future and storied history of the game. Today’s exciting announcement is just the first of many for NBA 2K21; it’s going to be a huge year for basketball fans and NBA 2K gamers.”

There was an endless number of fans who hoped the company would honor Kobe. Fans from all over the world started creating their own covers via photoshop to support their cases. Now their wish came true thanks to NBA 2K.

The “Mamba Forever Edition” will be available for Xbox and Playstation. and comes with a hefty $99.99 price tag. Ouch. But hey, Mamba is worth it!

NBA 2k21 will be available everywhere on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows PC, and Google Stadia on September 4, 2020. For the PS5 and Xbox Series X users, the game will be available around the holiday season.
