Lakers News: Team Given Permission to Open Practice Facilities

The Lakers have officially been given the clearance to open their facilities as early as Saturday, per a report from NBA Insider, Shams Charania.

According to the report, the team should have the clearance, even as city restrictions are extended past the 15th. The team held conversations with the Mayor’s office about receiving clearance about a week ago, and have finally received permission to proceed.

While this does clear the way for players to begin proper workouts, there are still plenty of regulations.

NBA Memo on Reopened Facilities

  • No more than 4 players to be allowed within a facility at all times
  • No head or assistant coaches can participate
  • group activities remain prohibited (practices and scrimmages)
  • Players cannot use non-team facilities such as gyms, fitness centers, etc.

This is a step in a positive direction for resuming the season, but there is still a ways to go. The report also states that the facility will not be open every day, which will limit the availability to players. The hope is to use this as a stepping stone towards group workouts once restrictions ease up.
