Spring training is only a handful of weeks away if it indeed starts on time. Despite that, teams are still stockpiling their rosters with as much talent as they possibly can, yet there are only a few big free agents left. One of them happens to be former Dodger Justin Turner.
Turner is said to be looking for one last payday before he calls it a career. However, his request for a four-year contract from any team seeking his talents has kept Los Angeles at bay. His age and past injuries raise many red flags for the Dodgers who hope to retain the Southern California native, yet if they do, they’ll be getting back one of the top third basemen in the league.
MLB Network has continued rankings of the top-10 players at each position for the 2021 season which has already included multiple Dodgers. It’s no surprise that Turner has found his name on the list as he ranks sixth behind players like Anthony Rendon, Nolan Arenado, and Johny Hustle himself, Manny Machado.

The 36-year old third baseman is fresh off of batting .307 with 4 home runs and 23 RBIs in 42 games for the Boys in Blue. His influence runs deeper than just at the plate. Turner is a respected voice and mentor in the clubhouse. He’s also a fan favorite who has also been a leader in the community. Losing him in free agency will be a huge blow to the Dodgers even if they have the talent and depth to replace him.
It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of his free agency plays out. Do the Dodgers re-sign him on a shorter deal, or does another team swoop in and take him away?
