Dodgers News: Justin Turner Wore Custom Cleats Designed by Child Warriors

Justin Turner has been known to make an impact on and off the field during his time with the Dodgers. Whether it be blasting a go-ahead home run in a crucial game or supporting the community, he can always be counted on.

September, which is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, is typically a time where Turner likes to help bring joy to these young warriors, as he deems them.  Over the past couple of years, Turner has teamed up with CHLA to surprise kids with blank white cleats for them to design how they see fit.

“So every year I go in at the end of August, early September and I go into four, five, or six rooms with a pair of all-white blank cleats that Adidas provides me. I take a ton of markers, sharpies, all different colors, and let the kids basically design my cleats.”

Not only do the kids get to draw pictures and label the cleats however they want, but they get to also see Turner wear them in a game. Despite the restrictions that COVID-19 has put in place, Justin was lucky enough to still continue the tradition and have the cleats delivered to two kids this year.

During this year’s game, the cleats that the kids designed for Turner gave him what his wife Kourtney described as “a little extra boost of magic.” It surely did as Turner homered in both pairs of cleats during a game against the Angels on September 25th. The Dodgers wound up winning the game 9-5 while Turner was able to bring a little joy to two strong warriors.

An act of kindness such as this should come as no surprise from JT. The man refuses to let the fame and fortune get to him, instead opting to give back to the community and make a difference. He was even nominated for the 2020 Roberto Clemente Award which is presented to the player who best represents the game of baseball off of the field in their community.

Don’t forget to watch Justin Turner and the rest of the Boys in Blue as they take on the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series Wednesday, September 30th, @ 7:08PM on ESPN.
