Goooose is back with the Dodgers after staying behind at the team’s alternate training site. Gonsolin, who reported late to the Dodgers’ Summer Camp, was supposed to compete for the team’s fifth rotation spot along with Ross Stripling and Dustin May. However, due to his tardiness to camp, the right-hander saw his chances of securing it slip away as the Dodgers did deem him ready for the season.

It was announced today that Gonsolin will rejoin the team and start on Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He will essentially fill in for Alex Wood who was placed on the IL earlier this week with shoulder inflammation.

It’s a chance of redemption for the California native who made his Major League debut last year against Arizona and yielded six runs (four unearned) in only four innings of work. The rookie did also pick up three strikeouts along the way accompanied by his first major league hit in his first major league at-bat. While there is a chance that Gonsolin won’t get to add to his career hits, he should get plenty of chances to add some more strikeouts to his growing resume.

In eleven appearances (six starts), Gonsolin finished the year with:

  • 4-2 record
  • 2.93 ERA
  • 37 strikeouts
  • 1st career save

The 26-year-old will have his chance to do things differently this time around while helping the Dodgers build off of a dramatic two-game sweep of the Houston Asterisks.
