Dodgers News: Former Dodger Rich Hill Calls 2020 World Series Less Tarnished than Astros’ 2017 Title

Lots of controversy seems to be surrounding the upcoming 60-game season on whether it should be considered such while the World Series has garnered controversy of its own. Many believe the World Series to be of no significance this year as it would most likely end up with an asterisk next to it in the record books. 

Don’t tell that to former Dodger Rich Hill who believes this year’s World Series would be more legitimate than the Astros in 2017. While we know the Astros were caught in a cheating scandal that involved them stealing signs throughout the season. A World Series title that was just within grasp for the Dodgers, after breezing through the season with an MLB high 104 wins, was stolen from them. 

In an interview with Mut At Night, Hill discussed his viewpoint on the validity of a World Series this year.

“We can look back to a couple years ago, was that a World Series? I was there… It is what it is. What I’m saying [is] if we’re going to compare that, if we’re going to compare this 60-game season and say it’s not a championship season, well, okay. I have a different feeling about that.”

D. Mountain joins former teammate Max Muncy, Dave Roberts, and other Dodgers who have spoken out on the legitimacy of the 2020 World Series no matter the length. While Hill is no longer a Dodger after signing a one year contract laid out with incentives, after undergoing elbow surgery in the offseason, with the Minnesota Twins, he’s still on a very talented club that has championship aspirations of their own.

The Dodgers of course have a lot to say about that as they are loaded with a talented roster. Their offense is led by two MVPs in Mookie Betts and Cody Bellinger, while their rotation features a three-headed monster in Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, and David Price. Those five names are just the tip of the iceberg as the Dodgers have the arguably the deepest roster in baseball and probably the best one equipped to take on such a short season where every game holds much more weight.
