According to Craig Mish of Fantasy Sports Network and formerly Fox Sports Florida, the Pittsburgh Pirates have interviewed Dodgers’ current first base coach George Lombard for their managerial vacancy.

Lombard has been a member of the Dodgers coaching staff for four seasons now as a first base coach and with the Pirates relieving Clint Hurdle of his duties recently, they have an opening. At just 44 years old, Lombard represents a fine candidate for any managerial opening.
Lombard is not the only coach of the Dodgers receiving interest as a manager as bench coach Bob Geren has received interest from numerous teams, including Farhan Zaidi’s San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers continue to make solid hires every year for their coaching staff and the rest of the league is taking notice.
If Lombard is the winner of the interview process, he will be taking over a Pittsburgh club that is on a downward spiral due to poor trades in recent years. The Pirates sent Gerrit Cole, arguably the best pitcher in the league at the moment, for a collection of prospects that appear to have much major league equity. They bought at the 2018 deadline, trading Tyler Glasnow and Austin Meadows, two budding stars, for Chris Archer. The trades have not looked good for the club.
However, this is good news for George Lombard who has served the Dodgers well in recent years. It also means that the Dodgers could be experiencing a lot of turnover on their coaching staff outside of Lombard. With the possibility of Bob Geren leaving the organization and the departure of Rick Honeycutt, the Dodgers have been left to find replacements.
