Dodgers News: Max Muncy to be Activated off IL

The Los Angeles Dodgers plan to activate infielder Max Muncy off the injured list before Friday’s game against the New York Mets, according to Alanna Rizzo.

Muncy has been on the injured list with a small fracture in his right wrist since August 30.

He has been facing live pitching at the Dodgers’ training complex in Arizona since the minor league season is coming to an end and the games he could rehab in are limited.

Muncy has been having an encore to his breakout 2018 season. He is currently hitting .253/.375/.525 with a 135 wRC+  and 33 home runs in 129 games and was named an all-star for the first time in his career.

Getting his bat back in the lineup in time for the playoffs will go a long way to increasing their World Series odds.

In the interim, rookie Gavin Lux has stepped into Muncy’s spot and experienced some ups and downs, but mostly ups after finishing a triple shy of the cycle in Tuesday night’s clincher in Baltimore. The 21 year-old is hitting .250/.333/.458 in 24 at-bats in his young career.

While the division is settled, the Dodgers still have the task of home field advantage throughout the playoffs at hand. Moreover, Dave Roberts and company will need to work towards assembling a 25 man roster for the first round of the playoffs, and that all starts with a healthy Max Muncy.
