Clippers News: LA and Luke Kennard Agree to Four-Year, $64 Million Extension

As the Clippers gear up for another playoff run during the 2020-2021 season, they decided to also ensure they stay competitive in the future. Monday afternoon it was reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that the Clippers and guard Luke Kennard have agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $64 million.

Los Angeles acquired Kennard a month ago from the Detroit Pistons via a three-team deal. The 24-year old shooting guard is entering his fourth season in the NBA and has the potential to be a solid shooter off of the bench. The Clippers must have liked what they saw from him during the shortened preseason to lock him up on such a deal. Kawhi Leonard has so far been impressed with how Kennard has been playing.

Last season with the Pistons, Kennard took a major step forward as he averaged 15.8 points per game with a 44.2 shooting percentage. With Landry Shamet switching teams in the deal that brought over Kennard, he should settle in as a solid scoring option for the Clippers as they seek to finally overcome their postseason troubles.

Kennard and the Clippers kick off their season on December 22, against the Lakers.
