After departing with former head coach Doc Rivers, the Clippers have seemed to found their next leader. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Tyronn Lue and the organization have agreed to terms on a deal Thursday.

Lue was always a top candidate for the job to fill the vacancy. He was also highly sought after by other teams such as the Houston Rockets who Lue was deemed as a favorite for. Instead, the Clippers have locked up Lue for the foreseeable future.
It’s no surprise that the new head coach had received internal support from Clippers players who he had helped coach this past season as an assistant to Rivers. He takes over a championship-caliber team and should be no stranger to the spotlight. After the team disappointed in the playoffs by blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Denver Nuggets, Lue will be counted on to turn things around. He had no shortage of success during his time as the Cleveland Cavaliers head coach when they won an NBA title in 2016. Reports have also surfaced that Larry Drew (former head coach of the Bucks, Hawks, and Cavaliers) and former 2004 Finals MVP Chauncey Billups will be joining Lue’s staff.
While filling the shoes of Doc Rivers will be an immense task, Lue’s 128-83 regular-season record followed by 41-20 record in the postseason shows that he is more than capable of handling the task.
