Chargers: Austin Ekeler Provides Optimistic Update on His Hamstring Injury

The Chargers have had a rough season any way you look at it. Their 6 one-score losses lead the NFL and it’s been hard to find much optimism outside of rookie quarterback, Justin Herbert.

One of the key reasons for their misfortunes has been the extended absence of their stud running back in Austin Ekeler. Ekeler’s hamstring/knee injury back in Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers dealt a blow to an offense that looked like it was finally starting to figure things out.

The Chargers originally believed the injury would sideline Ekeler for 4-6 weeks, with this Sunday being the 6-week mark. Due to the severity of the injury, however, the team is playing it safe and waiting for him to make a full recovery before bringing him back off of the IR.

Friday came with some good news, as Ekeler took to Instagram to let his fans and fantasy managers know that he was close to making his return.

From the looks of it, Austin is close to running at 100 percent again and only needs to pass a few more checkpoints before returning to the field. It’s clear that he’s been putting in the work, and that’s something Chargers fans have to appreciate out of their star back.

With Los Angeles quickly falling out of the playoff hunt, fans may want Ekeler out there sooner rather than later to try and salvage the season. It’s hard to blame them, but taking it slow is still the smart play here. With any luck, he could be back in the starting lineup as early as next Sunday against the New York Jets.
