Chargers: Tight End Hunter Henry Opens Up About Rivers Departure

The 2020 Los Angles Chargers look different without their longtime signal-caller, Philip Rivers, gone. After being the starting quarterback for 16 years Rivers decided to end his tenure with the team and seek the newest chapter of his career.

The chargers immediately addressed his loss by drafting Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert in the first round. Many fans were sad to see Rivers leave. Tight end Hunter Henry joined in as it was a sad moment for him as well. Rivers has been the only quarterback he’s known in his four-year career. In an interview with the San Diego-Union Tribune, he opened up about the situation.

“I wasn’t a big fan of it because Philip’s my guy. It was sad, definitely, to see him run off for that last time.”

By all means, Henry also mentioned that he was excited about the future of the offense. The offense is now Tyrod Taylor’s until Herbert can prove he’s ready. Although he calls Rivers a future Hall of Fame Quarterback, he didn’t pose much of if not any running threat. Tyrod and Herbert would are both much more capable mobile quarterbacks which can transform the offense and make it that much more active.

“[There are] so many different things that you can do with a mobile quarterback that can open your offense. [I’m] looking forward to seeing that aspect of our offense grow.”

River’s departure was a bittersweet moment for LA and Henry indeed but the team has a bright future with what it can now do with its offense. Maybe one of Taylor or Herbert will help to create a dominant offense for the Chargers.

Hopefully, football can happen in 2020 so we can get a glimpse into the post-Rivers era.

  1. It’s definitely a set back, everyone knows it’s specially if you going to miss some training camp, for the new guy. Yeah new QB going run, hopefully not a lot. Unless the new guy proves wrong, even do I still loyal to Rivers. All be supporting the colts all the way. Don’t like how the Spanos fail him and let him go.
