The Dodgers have placed first baseman and recent acquisition Tyler White on the 10-day injured list with a right trapezius strain. They recalled outfielder Kyle Garlick from Triple-A Oklahoma City for the corresponding move.

White, 28, was acquired by the Dodgers just before the trade deadline and has not proven much with the Dodgers organization. White holds a well below-average 71 wRC+ on the season and an absurdly terrible -18 wRC+ with the Dodgers. His slash line rests at a weak .045/.192/.045 with the Dodgers. Yikes.

Garlick, seemingly the Dodgers’ preference as a right-handed shuttle bat, has posted just a 77 wRC+ across 25 games in the big leagues. At Triple-A Oklahoma City, Garlick has fared much better, posting a 149 wRC+, .319 batting average, and 1.077 on-base plus slugging. He has also crushed 20 home runs and driven in 51 runs on the year.

With White’s struggles and Garlick’s recent surge, this move makes all the sense in the world — even if White’s injury is a real one and not a phantom injured list case. The Dodgers are supplied with a somewhat formidable right-handed bat as they face Marlins’ southpaw Caleb Smith on Thursday.
