On Sunday, catcher Will Smith hit a historic walk-off home run that gave the Dodgers a sweep over the Colorado Rockies. Obviously, it was one of the biggest moments of the 2019 season; and it was provided by the rookie. What made it more improbable – to quote Vin – was that Smith was recalled just hours earlier from AAA.

On Monday, Smith went on The Petros and Money Show on AM570 to talk about his big blast. In this case, it actually was barely a home run. Still, they all count the same in the bigs.

Clearly, Smith ran hard out of the box; which was an indication he didn’t think he got all of it. When asked if he thought he hit it out of the park, Smith was honest.

“No. I thought I hit it pretty good and just kind if got it up in the air it kept going and went out and won the game.”

Furthermore – the home run didn’t just fool Smith – it fooled Dodgers radio announcer Charley Steiner. However, it only fooled Steiner for a moment.

Finally, the story here is not the guffawed call of Steiner; nor anything other than the rookie catcher who has stolen hearts. Of course, the superseding story is the 2019 Dodgers as a whole. Of course, Smith was asked to weigh in on the group on the show as well.

“This is a special team man. Guys just think they are going to win every game and that is the mentality and the expectation.”

Smith is another special cog in a team that has a chance to finish historically well in terms of their record. While it’s always nice when a star like Cody Bellinger or Walker Buehler wins the team a game, it’s nice to see the baton passed to other players on the team. In this case, the Dodgers’ rookies won them three straight in walk-off fashion.
